FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing carbon-containing electrodes. Method includes the following stages: (i) pyrolysis of hydrocarbons to carbon and hydrogen, (iia) removing at least a portion of the carbon obtained in step (i) and at least partially further processing said carbon into a carbon-containing electrode to produce an electrode, (iib) removing hydrogen obtained in step (i), and at least partially using said hydrogen to provide energy to produce an electrode in step (iia), for production of aluminium at stage (iii) and/or pyrolysis process. Plant comprises reactor for pyrolysis process, reactor for production of anodes for production of aluminium, electrolysis reactor for production of aluminium, as well as power plant and/or at least one gas burner using pyrolytic hydrogen for production and providing energy for producing the anode in the reactor for producing the anodes, for producing aluminium in the electrolysis reactor and/or for the pyrolysis process in the reactor for the pyrolysis process.

EFFECT: use of obtained carbon and hydrogen in production of electrodes and/or aluminium.
