SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of materials science, in particular to a method for producing polycrystalline borates, which can be used as solid-state matrices for effective phosphors. A method for producing calcium hexaborate is proposed, including mixing calcium oxide with a boron compound and heat treatment of the resulting mixture, characterized in that to obtain calcium hexaborate with an ordered structure, boric acid is used in a molar ratio of 1:6 calcium oxide to boric acid, and heat treatment is carried out with a stepwise increase temperatures from 350°C to 850°C for 24 hours in the mode of 350°C - 5 hours, 600°C - 5 hours, 850°C - 14 hours with blend grinding every 5 hours and at 850°C - every 7 hours.

EFFECT: proposed method makes it possible to obtain monophasic polycrystalline calcium hexaborate.
