SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to the timber industry, in particular to logging machines. Felling machine (1) for processing timber contains a manipulator (4) with a felling and bucking head (5) containing broach rollers (6), delimbing knives (7), a felling link (8) and a saw mechanism (9), and a non-contact system measurements, video cameras (10) with laser rangefinders mounted on the cabin (3), and a data processing unit (11). The non-contact measurement system is configured to scan standing trees located in the area of the felling and bucking head, and to determine the predictive parameters of each tree before felling, including geometric dimensions, species, type and number of assortments, and to determine the actual trunk cut diameter and setting the length of the stem segment in accordance with the length of the assortment, taking into account certain predictive parameters of the tree. Capturing and felling a tree with the help of a felling and bucking head, cleaning the trunk from branches and bucking it into assortments while pulling the trunk through the felling and bucking head under the control of a non-contact measurement system are performed.

EFFECT: invention increases the level of automation in logging operations, increases the accuracy of characterization of timber, eliminates the need to calibrate the felling head, increases machine output and reduces downtime.
