FIELD: forestry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to logging and can be used for felling trees in winter conditions with high level of snow cover. Timber felling method involves gripping of standing tree, its cutting, felling, cutting of branches and bucking of gripped timber with production of assortments at logging area with further removal of assortments by timber transport. Before gripping the tree, the rotary lever is turned around the axis of the hinge to the position, in which the screw mounted on it is located outside the frame dimensions below the sawing mechanism, the auger is rotated and then the auger is buried into the snow mass near the tree trunk. Further, by changing the position of the harvester head in space, the snow mass is moved away from the tree, the harvester head is lifted in the vertical plane above the snow mass and rotation of the auger is stopped. Then the hydraulic cylinder acts on the rotary lever, turning it around the axis of the fastening hinge to the position at which the screw mounted on it is located within the frame dimensions without protruding beyond them.
EFFECT: use of the method of tree felling during winter logging will allow to reduce the load on structural elements of the harvester when clearing the space around the trunk of a standing tree, as well as increase efficiency of operations and reduce operator fatigue.
