SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, in particular to neurology. In the preoperative period, an ultrasound examination of the carotid arteries is performed in longitudinal and transverse projections using a linear sensor with a radiation frequency of 11 MHz. Then, areas of atherosclerotic plaques up to 1 cm in size located in the area of the greatest narrowing of the arterial lumen are isolated on still frames, and the median of the intensity of the ultrasonic signal reflected from the studied fragments of atherosclerotic plaques in decibels (dB) is calculated. And with a value in the preoperative period of the median intensity of the ultrasonic signal of 27-28 dB, the presence of embolic material in the form of calcifications with a complex of cells of the vascular wall with a size of 200 μm is predicted in the system of antiembolic protection of the brain, with a value of 29-34 dB - in the form of a complex of cells of the vascular wall with a size of 300 microns, at a value of 35-41 dB - in the form of fragments of fibrosis with calcification with a size of 500-1000 microns, and at a value of 42 dB - in the form of calcifications with a size of 1000 microns.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to increase the reliability of prediction of the composition of embolic material in the preoperative period in the system of distal antiembolic protection of the brain after transluminal balloon angioplasty with stenting of the internal carotid artery.
