FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to vascular surgery, and can be used to predict the risk of embologneous rupture of unstable carotid atherosclerotic plaque. A carotid artery bifurcation model is constructed and the tangential stress of its wall is assessed. That is combined with computer angiography and carotid artery bifurcation model constructed according to the results thereof. Carotid artery wall tangential stress is evaluated taking into account blood pressure at the outlet of its atherosclerotic lesion, and normal carotid artery wall tension is determined with allowance for changes in arterial blood pressure within its lumen. Vector values of tangential and normal pressure on artery wall are determined. That is followed by addition of their values characterizing the value of the vascular wall total stress in the zone of the atherosclerotic plaque at different values of systemic arterial pressure. If their sum is equal to or greater than 17.8 kPa with systemic blood pressure values of 160 mm Hg. and lower risk of rupture of unstable atherosclerotic plaque is considered to be extremely high, which is an indication for surgical intervention.
EFFECT: method provides predicting the risk of embologneous rupture of unstable carotid atherosclerotic plaque and timely surgical intervention by determining a diagnostic criterion – an index of complete vascular wall tension in the area of an atherosclerotic plaque.
