FIELD: high-voltage lines.

SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to monitoring and diagnostics of overhead power line insulators (OPL), which provide monitoring the technical condition of insulators of voltage class 6-35 kV. Essence: the temperature of the insulator of each phase is measured. Their temperature is compared in pairs. The largest difference from the pairwise compared temperatures is determined. When the maximum difference of the reference value is exceeded, a signal is transmitted about the pre-breakdown state of the insulator. The device contains a maxi-selector, a comparison circuit, a reference, a transmitter, an insulator temperature sensor at each phase, a diagnostic device on each support. Temperature sensors are installed on the upper part of suspended insulators or on the lower part of pin or support insulators. The outputs of the temperature sensors are connected to the corresponding inputs of the maxi-selector. The output of the maxi-selector is connected to the first input of the comparison circuit, to the second input of which the output of the reference is connected. The operation of the comparison circuit starts the transmitter.

EFFECT: simple and reliable detection of a damaged insulator at the initial stage of the defect occurrence, which excludes damage to the insulator with the occurrence of an earth fault in a system with an isolated neutral or a short circuit in a system with a grounded neutral.
