SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to a sealed and insulated tank wall. The wall contains a thermal insulating barrier forming a support surface for the sealing membrane. The thermal barrier contains two adjacent insulating panels that confine the inter-panel space. The tank wall additionally contains an insulating insert (1) installed in the inter-panel space so as to fill the inter-panel space. The insulating insert (1) comprises an insulating inner part (4) partially covered by a covering part (5). The insulating inner part (4) contains layered glass wool. The layered glass wool contains canvas fibres superimposed on top of each other in the layering direction (12). The insulating element (1) is installed in the inter-panel space in such a way that the layered glass wool (12) is parallel to the transversal direction of the inter-panel space.
