FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid 2-ethylhexyl ester. This ether is used in agriculture as a herbicide against a wide range of weeds that clog crops. The proposed method consists in the interaction of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid with 2-ethylhexanol in the presence of a macroporous cation exchange resin based on a sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer in an amount of not more than 3% by weight of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid.
EFFECT: obtaining the target product with the following characteristics: purity - not less than 96 wt.%, the content of 2-ethylhexanol - no more than 3% wt., the content of free 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid - no more than 1 wt.%, while optimizing the technological process - reduction of the synthesis time, simplification of the production scheme by eliminating the stage of purification of the finished product, repeated use of the catalyst without regeneration.
