FIELD: detection equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for detection of metal objects, for example firearms or bladed weapons, their parts, and shrapnel materials hidden under clothes or in the baggage in places of organized people passage. At any given moment, in a horizontal part of a control space, bidirectional non-in-phase pulses of an electromagnetic field are formed with two independent coils oppositely located from both sides of a passage, from which receiving signals are simultaneously taken. Signals are passed through controllable integrators, accumulated in shift registers, and supplied in parallel together with counts previous to the current moment to a neural network calculator. The neural network calculator generates, on an indication unit, a three-dimensional map of location and orientation of detected metal items being at the current moment in a control zone. The metal detector contains coils vertically installed from both sides of the passage, a control unit connected to coils. The second outputs of coils are connected to controllable integration circuits. The control unit contains a microcontroller, shift registers, a neural network calculator, an indication unit.

EFFECT: increase in the reliability of localization of detected metal items, including when detecting several metal items at the same time, with significant difference in weight and geometric shape.
