FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of pyrolytic decomposition of hydrocarbons. A method for producing hydrogen and pyrocarbon from hydrocarbons is proposed, in which hydrocarbons are converted into hydrogen and carbon in a reactor at temperatures ranging from 1000°C to 1800°C, and the specified reactor contains two electrodes placed at a distance from each other in the direction of the flow of hydrocarbons, characterized in that in the reactor section between the specified electrodes, along the entire cross-section of the reactor an inert gas component is introduced, while the reactor in the specified section between the electrodes contains carbon particles. A device for pyrolytic conversion of hydrocarbons into hydrogen and carbon is also proposed.
EFFECT: proposed method makes it possible to provide such operating conditions for properly configured reactors that prevent the formation of a conductive carbon bridge on the reactor wall.
