SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ecology and biotechnology, in particular to devices for the study of water, and can be used to assess the purity of water, including its microbiological quality indicators. The claimed fiber-optic device for assessing the purity of water contains a main laser, a test beam laser, light guides and a cuvette with water. In this case, the main laser along the beam is connected in series through a light guide to an optical mixer, an optical splitter, and through a final light guide to a cuvette with analyzed water, and a test beam laser is connected to an optical mixer. The optical coupler is connected to the water purity indicator through a light guide through a photodetector. As the main laser, an infrared laser with an absorption coefficient of 5 1/cm or more is used, and as a probe beam laser, a visible light laser is used. A frequency meter is used as an indicator of the degree of water purity.

EFFECT: creation of a device for evaluating the purity of water with high sensitivity, which makes it possible to carry out an accurate operational measurement of the purity of water by immersing the end of an optical fiber in a water sample.
