FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: device includes light guide and light source for injection of light into both butts of light guide so that light guide generates light signals propagating in mutually antithetical directions. Light guide comes in the form of optical fiber or fiber bundle produced from silicon dioxide in which light characteristic changes or falls under influence of certain external parameter caused by disturbance. Device is provided with detector to detect light from both butts and to determine time delay or difference between changed signals affected by parameter in order to establish localization of disturbance along length of light guide. EFFECT: improved reliability of device and method. 29 cl, 10 dwg
