FIELD: manufacture of composite materials.

SUBSTANCE: it regards the manufacture of composite materials filled with mammoth ivory for use in the artistic ware production. A method for manufacturing a block composite material containing crushed pieces of tusk as a filler, and a synthetic binder as a matrix, includes preliminary sorting of tusk pieces by texture, shade and size, preparation of a moulding mass by combining the filler with the binder, and subsequent cold pressing in a mould. Noteworthy, the pressing is carried out at a specific pressure of 10-14 MPa for 5-10 minutes, after which, the material is additionally degassed by cyclic vacuuming in a mould at a pressure of -1.0 atmosphere and the duration of each cycle is 40-45 minutes. The total vacuuming time is 2.0-2.5 hours, with the following ratio of components, wt.%: filler made of tusk pieces - 50-60, synthetic binder - 40-50.

EFFECT: invention allows to obtain a high-density and durable material from mammoth ivory and a synthetic binder with good volumetric solidity, necessary for the subsequent manufacture of carved products based on it.
