SUBSTANCE: invention is related to an adaptive cruise control system and an adaptive cruise control method supporting traffic light recognition. The adaptive cruise control system comprises a wireless receiving module and a main controller connected to the wireless receiving module and configured to receive the first traffic light signal status information received from the wireless receiving module and perform stop control or adaptive cruise control based on the first traffic light signal status information. The main controller includes a traffic light signal processing module containing a first signal processing submodule. The first signal processing submodule is configured to determine the colour of the currently lit traffic light according to the first traffic light signal status information, and determine whether to activate the stop control module or the adaptive cruise control module according to the different colours of the traffic lights.
EFFECT: increased driving safety during operation.
