FIELD: digital payments.
SUBSTANCE: methods, devices, computer-readable media, and systems for providing, along with a token, a token assurance level and the data used to generate the token assurance level. During token issuance, one or more Identification and Verification (ID&V) methods may be performed to ensure that the token replaces the Primary Account Number (PAN) that is legitimately used by the token requestor. The token guarantee level can be assigned to a given token depending on the type of ID&V being executed and the entity executing the ID&V. Different ID&Vs can lead to different token guarantee levels. An issuer may wish to know the guarantee level and data used to generate the guarantee level associated with a token before authorizing a payment transaction that uses the token.
EFFECT: increased security when making payments, thereby reducing the risk of fraud.
