PORTED CATHETER ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF APPLICATION THEREOF Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61M25/00 A61M25/06 A61M39/22 A61M39/26

Abstract RU 2792940 C1

FIELD: medical instruments.

SUBSTANCE: intravenous catheters with injection ports capable of aspiration and/or injection. Ported catheter assembly comprises a catheter sleeve having a distal end, an internal cavity and a proximal end; a port extending from the catheter sleeve and having an internal opening communicating with the interior of the catheter sleeve; a catheter tube extending from the distal end of the catheter sleeve; a needle passing through the catheter tube, with the tip of the needle protruding distally from the distal opening of the catheter tube; and a valve. The valve has an open position, in which two-way fluid flow is possible between the internal cavity of the catheter sleeve and the port, and a closed position, wherein sealing is provided between the internal cavity of the catheter sleeve and the port. The valve is configured to move to the open position by inserting an instrument into the port. The port is designed such that the instrument, when inserted into the port, makes direct contact with the valve. The method of using the above-described catheter comprises attaching a catheter tube to a patient, wherein the catheter tube is connected to a catheter sleeve having an internal cavity and a port communicating with the internal cavity of the catheter sleeve; moving the valve from a closed position to an open position by inserting an instrument into the port to break the seal created between the port and the internal cavity of the catheter sleeve, with the instrument in direct contact with the valve; transfer of fluid from the internal cavity of the catheter sleeve to the port; and returning the valve to a closed position after the completion of the fluid transfer.

EFFECT: possibility of both additional injection to the patient and aspiration from the patient, without interrupting the flow of intravenous solution or without requiring the removal or assembly of parts that may cause discomfort to the patient.
