FIELD: medical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to an intravenous catheter. Intravenous catheter (10) comprises catheter sleeve (12) located at the proximal end of catheter tube (13), wherein catheter sleeve (12) has inner surface (14) forming chamber (16); needle (20); protective needle cap (32) arranged to slide on needle (20); and a valve that separates the distal space distally from the valve from the proximal space located in the proximal direction from the valve. Needle (20) defines an axial direction and has needle tip (24); needle (20) passes through chamber (16) and catheter tube (13) in the ready position. Protective cap (32) for the needle is at least partially placed in chamber (16) when needle (20) is in the ready position. Protective cap (32) for needle comprises base part (34) and first and second levers (36, 38) extending from base part (34). First lever (36) is deflected in radial direction outward by needle (20) against restoring force when needle (20) is in ready position, as a result of which protective cap (32) for the needle enters the retaining contact with catheter sleeve (12). Valve opens due to pressure difference between pressure prevailing in distal space and pressure prevailing in proximal space. Valve comprises a body having a first opening and a second opening; and elastomer part arranged in housing. Elastomer part comprises solid peripheral wall protruding from surface; and slit passing through surface. Solid part of peripheral wall forms solid sealed contact with housing and divides housing into upper section and lower section. Elastomer part is designed so that at creation of pressure difference between upper section and lower section of housing provides one of two: (i) deflection of peripheral wall from housing, allowing fluid to flow around elastomer part; or (ii) opening the slot, allowing the fluid medium to flow through the elastomer part. Elastomer part further comprises a solid side protrusion along the peripheral edge of the surface, and housing is made with appropriate recess for arrangement of solid lateral projection and for application of radial stress to surface of elastomer part.

EFFECT: invention provides better protection against accidental prick by needle tip, and manufacturing of it is low-cost.
