SUBSTANCE: chewing gum for reducing cravings for smoking, comprising: a gum core containing nicotine polacrilex, an outer coating covering the gum core containing at least one sugar alcohol or mixtures of sugar alcohols, a fraction fused onto the outer coating, the fraction containing nicotine bitartrate or dihydrate nicotine ditartrate and at least one sugar alcohol or a mixture of sugar alcohols, and the buffer is present in the coating and/or in the fraction deposited on the outer coating, wherein the sugar alcohol is selected from the group consisting of erythritol, xylitol, lactitol, mannitol, maltitol, isomalt, arabitol and sorbitol or mixtures thereof; the gum core contains 1 to 6 mg of nicotine; one fraction welded onto the outer coating contains from 0.25 to 2 mg of nicotine; one fraction deposited on the outer coating contains from 73 to 93% of sugar alcohol, expressed as % of the total mass of the fraction; the buffer is selected from sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, trometamol or mixtures thereof and is present in the coating and/or in the fraction deposited on the outer coating in an amount of from 1 to 2.5 mg. Chewing gum is used to treat a person suffering from tobacco addiction.

EFFECT: chewing gum described above provides a sustained and immediate release of nicotine.
