SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an oral tablet for delivery of biologically active compounds through the oral mucosa, including (i) a sugar alcohol composition in powder form, including one or more sugar alcohol particles in an amount of at least 20 wt.%. tablets, and (ii) an ion exchange composition in powder form, wherein the ion exchange composition in powder form is contained in the tablet as a separate composition and the ion exchange composition in powder form includes an ion exchange complex consisting of nicotine loaded into a plurality of particles of at least one water-soluble anionic mucoadhesive polymer, wherein the average diameter of the plurality of particles of at least one water-soluble anionic mucoadhesive polymer is from 10 to 1,000 microns, wherein the ion exchange complex is capable of forming a gel upon contact with the oral mucosa upon hydration with saliva, and wherein the ion exchange complex is capable of protecting nicotine to until it adheres to the oral mucosa, and also refers to an ion exchange composition in powder form for delivering biologically active compounds through the oral mucosa, comprising an ion exchange complex consisting of nicotine loaded into a plurality of particles of at least one water-soluble anionic a mucoadhesive polymer, wherein the average diameter of the plurality of particles of at least one water-soluble anionic mucoadhesive polymer is from 10 to 1,000 microns, wherein the ion exchange complex is capable of forming a gel upon contact with the oral mucosa upon hydration with saliva, and wherein the ion exchange complex is capable of protecting nicotine until it sticks to the oral mucosa.
