SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to catalysts and their use for the production of unsaturated nitrile. Described is an oxide catalyst for use in a gas-phase catalytic propane or isobutane ammoxidation reaction, wherein the oxide catalyst contains a complex oxide, in which the complex oxide contains catalytically active particles that are isolated from the complex oxide using a hydrogen peroxide solution, and these catalytically active particles have an average composition, defined by STEM-EDX measurements, represented by the following formula: Mo₁V_aSb_bNb_cW_dO_n, where a, b, c and d satisfy the relations represented by the formulas 0.050≤a≤0.200, 0.050≤b≤0.200, 0.100≤c≤0.300, 0≤d≤0.100, and a≤c; and n is a number determined by the valences of other elements. Described is a process for producing unsaturated nitrile by the reaction of gas-phase catalytic ammoxidation of propane or isobutane in the presence of the oxide catalyst described above.
