DEVICE FOR ASSESSING EMOTIONS IN INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILDREN Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B5/291 A61B5/377 A61B5/16

Abstract RU 2794620 C2

FIELD: physiological psychology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to portable electroencephalographic (EEG) headsets for the studies of the cognitive and emotional development of infants and young children. The device comprises EEG electrodes configured to provide optimal point contact with the scalp of an infant or young child, which are positioned according to option A or B. In case of option A, pairs of electrodes are placed to provide symmetrical recording in the frontal, temporal, and parietal areas. Six electrodes are placed at the anterior pole to assess EEG asymmetry in an infant or young child. Two electrodes are placed in the temporal region to study pleasant/unpleasant sensations in the auditory zone. Three electrodes are placed in the parietal region to study the attraction of attention to emotional speech and somatosensory activity. In the case of option B, the pairs of electrodes are placed so as to ensure symmetrical recording in the frontal, temporal, and parietal regions. Six electrodes are placed at the anterior pole to assess EEG asymmetry in an infant or young child. Two electrodes are placed in the temporal region to study pleasant/unpleasant sensations in the auditory zone. Five electrodes are placed in the parietal region to study the attraction of attention to emotional speech and somatosensory activity. Four electrodes are placed in the occipital region to measure visual processing of emotions.

EFFECT: more accurate measurement and monitoring of the attention and engagement of infants and young children is achieved.
