FIELD: medicine; abdominal surgery.

SUBSTANCE: measure the level of platelets of a patient admitted to the hospital upon admission, as well as on the third, fourth and fifth days after the surgery. Determine platelet ratio on the third, fourth and fifth days according to a given formula. If platelet ratio on the third day is equal to or higher than 1.72, on the fourth day is equal to or higher than 1.64, or on the fifth day it is equal to or higher than 1.39, high risk of unfavorable outcome is predicted.

EFFECT: method allows to determine the risk of unfavorable outcome in patients with diffuse peritonitis by monitoring the dynamics of platelet levels during the first five days of the postoperative period.
