FIELD: inorganic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: technology for obtaining inorganic scintillation materials for measuring ionizing radiation based on polycrystals and composites activated by europium ions, namely materials for neutron detection. Scintillation composite for detecting thermal neutrons, including a scintillator and a binder, where polycrystalline silicate Li2CaSiO4 is activated with divalent europium ions is used as a scintillator, and lithium polysilicate is used as a binder. Activation of Li2CaSiO4 polycrystals with divalent europium ions leads to a high yield of scintillations during detection of charged particles due to the interaction of neutrons with nuclei of the 6-Li isotope. The initial composite of the binder and polycrystals contains natural lithium or lithium enriched with the 6-Li isotope to increase sensitivity to thermal neutrons.
EFFECT: creation of a composite material, including a scintillator with a reduced effective charge of the substance and with reduced sensitivity to background gamma radiation.
