SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to harden self-sealing tapered threads operating under high contact loads, including in the oil and mining industries, for example, when hardening threaded joints of drill pipes for drilling wells for various purposes. The method for hardening elements of a conical threaded connection of a drill string by means of a laser radiation source, a focusing lens and a rotary mirror includes the relative rotation of the hardened element and the rotary mirror, as well as the movement of the rotary mirror parallel to the thread axis of the element by the value of the thread pitch per one revolution of the element, while the laser beam is directed on the hardened surface perpendicular to the thread axis, according to the invention, the focusing lens is simultaneously moved in the direction of movement of the rotary mirror by the amount A, while A=L(1-cos(J)), where: L is the amount of movement of the rotary mirror; J is the pitch angle of the thread.

EFFECT: simplifying hardening process of the element, as well as increasing the reliability and durability of the threaded connection due to the possibility of maintaining a constant diameter of the laser beam acting on the hardened surface.
