METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REMOVING RADIOACTIVE FILM FROM SURFACES OF CONTAMINATED PARTS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2212067 C1

FIELD: laser technology for decontaminating metal surfaces of decommissioned pipelines at nuclear power plants. SUBSTANCE: method includes washing contaminated surface of part with liquid flow, generating laser beam followed by scanning generated beam over contaminated surface of part through layer of washing liquid in crosswise direction relative to liquid flow; in the process generated laser beam is divided into two beams of equal intensity; these beams are applied in opposition to opposite surfaces of part being decontaminated and when being scanned over surfaces of part the latter is displaced in direction opposing that of washing liquid, washing being made in full volume. Device implementing this method is provided in addition with laser beam expander, beam splitting mirror, second mirror, and second laser beam deflector connected to control unit; hydraulic system is provided in addition with dish to receive part being decontaminated; inlet of dish communicates with outlet of liquid tank and outlet, with inlet of liquid pump; dish is open on side opposite to its outlet to pass part being decontaminated; opposing walls of dish are provided with transparent windows in the form of focusing cylindrical lenses whose focal axes are oriented along washing liquid flow. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of removing radioactive film; reduced power requirement; enhanced labor productivity. 16 cl, 7 dwg
