FIELD: physical; chemical analysis.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to control the quality of oxide coatings on metal surfaces. An express method for determining the through porosity of oxide non-conductive microarc coatings on valve metals and alloys by electrochemical measurements using a device that sets the potential and determines the current values consists in obtaining polarization curves on the base metal without a coating and a sample with a microarc coating. Preliminary cathodic treatment is carried out on a sample with a microarc coating at a fixed cathode (negative) potential, and the through porosity of the microarc coating is determined by calculating the ratio of the current density value for the coated sample to the current density value on the base metal or alloy with the same fixed anode (positive) potential value.
EFFECT: increase in the reliability of the results obtained and expands the arsenal of technical means of a similar purpose.
