SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for managing the maintenance of a ship containing a sealed and heat-insulating tank for transporting liquefied gas. The method includes the steps of determining (step 310) the current reservoir fill level, determining (step 320) the current ship movement state, determining (step 330) the current sloshing index Ibi based on the current reservoir fill level and the current ship motion state considering position and geometry of the reservoir, integrate (step 340) the determined current slosh rate IBi into a wear rate IUi that takes into account the history of slosh rates. The wear index is then compared to a threshold value to indicate whether an inspection of the tank is necessary, depending on the result of the comparison.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of wear assessment and a reduction in maintenance time.
