FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: internal combustion engine comprises a housing (1), two opposed and counter-moving pistons (3) and (4) connected to pendulums (5) and (6), connecting rods (11) and (12), output shaft (18), gas distribution mechanism and fuel injection nozzles. The housing (1) includes a working volume (2). Opposite pistons (3) and (4) form a common combustion chamber. The gas distribution mechanism is made in the form of purge and exhaust windows. The working volume is made in the form of two bounding planes and two rounded surfaces between them, having a rectangular cross section. Pistons (3) and (4) are rectangular. The engine is equipped with an additional working volume, presented in the form of two bounding planes and two rounded surfaces between them, having a rectangular cross section. Pistons of additional working volume are connected with the same pendulums (5) and (6) as pistons (3) and (4) of the main working volume. Pistons of additional working volume are connected by means of coaxial bushings with levers (9) and (10) articulated with connecting rods (11) and (12) of opposite drive shafts (13) and (14) with eccentrics connected through gears (15), (16) and (17) with output shaft (18). With an increase in the main working volume (2), the additional working volume decreases and vice versa.
EFFECT: reducing the consumption of materials while increasing the service life of the engine.
