FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed engine has at least one cylinder, two opposed pistons arranged in cylinder to form common combustion chamber, moving towards each other and provided with connecting links, and crankshaft. Timing gear is made in form of scavenging and fuel injection ports. Mechanism converting movement of pistons into crankshaft rotation is provided with rockers in number equal to number of pistons. Connecting links of pistons are hinge-coupled with first arms of rockers, and connecting rods of crankshaft are hinge-coupled with second arms of corresponding rockers. Two opposite connecting rods of crankshaft are located, according, in relatively intersecting planes which are square to plane of crankshaft rotation. Connecting rods of crankshaft are arranged so that with one them in position in which piston coupled with connecting rod is in top or bottom dead center, other connecting rod is in position other than top or bottom dead center of the piston coupled with this connecting rod. EFFECT: reduced fuel consumption, increased power output, improved efficiency, simplified design of engine, reduced overall dimensions and loads in motion converting mechanism and specific weight of engine, improved ecological characteristics. 5 cl, 8 dwg
