MASS SPECTROMETER WITH ELECTRONIC IMPACT IONIZATION BASED ON A MULTIPLE ELECTRODE HARMONIZED KINGDON TRAP Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC H01J49/26 H01J49/08

Abstract RU 2797722 C1

FIELD: mass spectrometry.

SUBSTANCE: invention describes a mass spectrometer with electron impact ionization based on a multi-electrode harmonized Kingdon trap, consisting of two external and several internal electrodes. The mass spectrometer with electron impact ionization is based on a harmonized multi-electrode Kingdon trap, which consists of two external and several internal electrodes configured for detecting a signal induced by ions oscillating in a quadratic potential inside the trap. A potential is applied to the internal electrodes, which creates an electric field outside these electrodes inside the trap, the potential value of which depends quadratically on the coordinate along the internal electrodes. The squareness of the potential is provided by the shape of the inner and outer electrodes. The mass spectrometer is equipped with an electron source located outside the Kingdon trap, which ionizes the analyte gas molecules inside the trap with a negative potential U sufficient to accelerate the electrons and penetrate into the trap, and is configured to ionize the analyte gas molecules by electrons with an energy value varying from U in the region near the outer electrodes to zero at the electron turning point, where the potential of the field created by the inner electrodes coincides with the potential applied to the electron source.

EFFECT: increased resolution of the mass spectrometer.
