SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to assess the tendency of the surfacing material to form hot cracks when selecting the brand of surfacing materials and surfacing modes. The method includes the use of a process sample with an annular groove, which is filled with a surfacing material, melting the surfacing material using a non-consumable electrode in an inert gas medium, cooling the surfacing weld and counting the number of hot cracks in the surfacing joint when it is examined at a 10-fold increase. The process sample is made in the form of a steel cylinder with an annular groove located on the outer surface of the cylinder from the side of one of its ends, and the surfacing material is used in the form of a pressed metal-ceramic ring with a given composition, which is placed in the mentioned groove of the cylinder, while using at least three cylinders with said rings placed on them. Cooling is carried out by forced cooling of the outer surface of the deposited weld using a water-cooled metal mould, which is placed outside the cylinder, and the average result of the sum of the calculated number of cracks for each deposited weld of all process samples is taken as an indicator of the tendency of the deposited material to form hot cracks.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of test evaluation and reduced labour intensity.
