FIELD: laser techniques.
SUBSTANCE: active elements (AE) of a metal vapor laser. The method for operation of the active element of a copper vapor laser containing a reservoir filled with hydrogen includes filling the active element with neon buffer gas, unsoldering the active element, heating the discharge channel and the reservoir to operating temperatures. Hydrogen is added to the buffer gas to a partial pressure , corresponding to the maximum radiation power, the reservoir is filled with hydrogen to a pressure determined from the following expression
where VAE is the internal volume of the active element, Vres is the volume of the reservoir.
EFFECT: increasing the stability of the radiation power and, as a result, increasing the durability of the active element.
