SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for obtaining sols of cerium dioxide in non-polar media, in demand in the field of biomedicine and industry. A method for obtaining a cerium dioxide sol in a non-aqueous medium includes hydrothermal treatment of an aqueous solution of (NH₄)₂Ce(NO₃) with a concentration of 0.2-1.0 M at a temperature of 80-100°C for at least 0.4 h, separating the SeO₂ precipitate and redispersing it. Before redispersion, the precipitate is washed with isopropyl alcohol, redispersion is carried out in water, the resulting aqueous CeO₂ sol is boiled at a temperature of 100°C until removal of isopropyl alcohol. Then the sol is diluted to a concentration of 0.1 M in a volume of 10 mL and added to a solution obtained by mixing 10 mL of a 0.5 M solution of 2-ethylhexanoic or octanoic acid in heptane with 5 mL of a 1.0 M aqueous solution of NH₄HCO₃. The reaction mixture is then stirred at 40°C in an open container until the heptane is completely evaporated. 10 mL of heptane are added to the resulting cerium dioxide sol, shaken until the CeO₂ is completely extracted into heptane, and the aqueous phase is removed.

EFFECT: obtaining a re-dispersible stable sol of cerium dioxide in a non-polar solvent at temperatures not exceeding 100°C.
