FIELD: chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for purifying air from volatile organic compounds, in particular alcohols, specifically to a method for purifying air from ethanol. The method of air purification from ethanol by its adsorption and complete oxidation includes contacting air with a cobalt catalyst on a carrier (zirconium oxide) when heated. As a cobalt catalyst, lanthanum cobaltite LaCoO3 with a perovskite structure on a carrier (zirconium oxide doped with lanthanum) is used. The ratio of components is, wt.%: LaCoO3 - 20, the rest is the carrier. The catalyst is characterized by a porous structure with a specific surface area of 72 m2/g, a mesopore volume of 0.183 cm3/g. The method further includes contacting air containing ethanol impurities with a catalyst, which is carried out by microwave heating of the catalyst layer with a radiation power and frequency of 50 W and 3.8 GHz, respectively, at a temperature of 50-160°C and volumetric feed rate of raw materials 6000 h-1.
EFFECT: complete purification (100%) of air from ethanol and a decrease in the process temperature to 50°C due to the adsorption of ethanol at this temperature and its complete oxidation when the temperature rises to 160°C, thanks to the use of microwave heating of the catalyst LaCoO3 (20%)/ZrO2 -La.
