FIELD: control of product shelf life.

SUBSTANCE: method is proposed for controlling the shelf life of food products in an air or inert environment at given values of temperature and humidity of the gaseous medium, which includes placing a pre-created indicator sensor and a colour scale with a coloured comparative mark on the outer surface of the controlled product, visually determining the colour of the indicator sensor with subsequent colour matching an indicator sensor with a colour of a comparative mark, by which one judges what shelf life the product corresponds to, while the indicator sensor is made on the basis of wide-pore silica gel grains placed in a polymer shell, on the surface of which a vanadium oxide monolayer is formed, followed by treatment of the silica gel grains with water vapour and an inert flow gas at 200°C, and the thickness of the polymer shell is selected depending on the shelf life of the product to control the time to achieve the desired equilibrium colour of the sensor, while the calibration of the comparative mark is carried out upon reaching the required equilibrium colour of the indicator sensor, depending on the thickness of the polymer film and the shelf life of the product.

EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of determining the suitability of a product without opening the package by increasing the sensitivity of the indicator sensor.
