FIELD: chemical industry; lighting engineering.
SUBSTANCE: first, the initial oxides of lutetium and europium, as well as barium carbonate, are calcined, and then they are mixed in the required stoichiometric ratios with orthoboric acid. The resulting mixture is heat treated by heating it to 500°C and holding at this temperature for 25 hours. Then it is crushed, mixed and placed in an oven to obtain single-crystal aggregates Ba6(Lu1-xEux)5(B3O9)3, where 0.02≤x≤0.2, at a temperature of 1250°C for 1 hour. Cooling to room temperature is carried out for 10 hours.
EFFECT: resulting red-emitting luminescent material based on barium borate and lutetium, activated with Eu3+ ions, can be used as a phosphor for the manufacture of light-emitting diodes (LED) with optical excitation in the near ultraviolet region, has chromaticity coordinates (0.6658; 0.3340) in the color space CIE 1931 corresponding to red, the quantum yield reaches 28% at x = 0.08.
