FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the copolymerization of alkyl methacrylates and benzyl methacrylate. A method is proposed for the copolymerization of benzyl methacrylate and pentadecyl methacrylate by mixing benzyl methacrylate and pentadecyl methacrylate with a molar ratio of components from 1:10 to 1:12, and both pure pentadecyl methacrylate and its mixture with hexadecyl methacrylate with a content of hexadecyl methacrylate from 10 to 90 wt.% can be used, after mixing there is an addition of 50 to 60 vol.% toluene as a solvent and from 1.1 to 2.0 wt.% benzoyl peroxide as an initiator, followed by heating from 100 to 108°C for 5 to 7 hours with constant stirring and bubbling with nitrogen, then the mixture is precipitated with an excess of methanol in a volume ratio of 1:3 to 1:5 and stirred for 25 to 40 minutes, allowed to settle, after which the solution is separated: the light liquid phase, which contains methanol, is sent for decantation, and the heavy liquid phase, which contains the copolymer, is deposited on the bottom of the container, then dried at a temperature of 90 to 135°C and a pressure of 10 to 55 kPa for 1 to 1.5 hours, then the mixture is allowed to cool to 50°C, after which toluene is added in a mass ratio of 1:1 to the mass of the obtained copolymer and mixed to obtain a solution of pentadecyl methacrylate copolymers or a mixture of alkyl methacrylates with benzyl methacrylate.
EFFECT: ensuring high efficiency of copolymers of pentadecyl methacrylate and benzyl methacrylate, which consists in lowering the filterability temperature and pour point when adding copolymers to diesel fuel.
