SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of a depressant based on copolymers of alpha-olefins and maleic anhydride. Described is a method of producing an alpha-olefin-based depressant, comprising obtaining copolymers via a radical copolymerisation of alpha-olefins and maleic anhydride in the presence of an initiator, characterized by that alpha-olefins with carbon chain length from 12 to 18 are used for copolymerisation, and molar ratio of components is from 5:1 to 100:1, then a solvent is added, which is ortho-xylene in amount of 0 to 60 vol.%, and then an initiator is introduced, which is benzoyl peroxide in amount of 1.0 to 3.0 wt.%, and heating is carried out at temperature of 100 to 150 °C for 100 to 400 minutes with constant stirring, after that, the mixture is dried until the vapour reaches temperature of 220-250 °C and pressure from 10 to 20 kPa, allow the mixture to cool down to 50 °C, after which ortho-xylene is added in weight ratio of 1:1 to the weight of the obtained copolymer and mixed.

EFFECT: obtaining a high-efficiency additive based on alpha-olefins.
