FIELD: waste disposal.

SUBSTANCE: methods for processing, neutralizing and destroying medical waste using electric arc plasma applied in energy, chemical industry, metallurgy, utilities, environment protection. The method for processing, neutralizing and destroying medical waste includes charging and supply of packaged medical waste into the working chamber of an electric furnace, ignition and preheating of the lining and gasification zone, high-temperature gasification of waste, afterburning of carbon and remelting of the mineral part of the waste, purification and quenching of synthesis gas, vitrification liquid slag, automated process control. Preheating of the lining and gasification zone to a temperature of 1200°C is carried out simultaneously by two electric arc plasma burners, the main and additional ones, and the power of the main electric arc plasma burner is higher than the power of the additional one. When the temperature in the gasification zone reaches 1200°C power source of the main arc plasma burner is turned off, the power of the additional arc plasma burner is adjusted to maintain the temperature in the gasification zone at a given level, and continuous high-temperature gasification of medical waste is carried out. When the liquid melt bath is filled with ash and slag residues, the main electric arc plasma burner is switched on and carbon is reburned and the mineral part of the waste is remelted into inert slag by the main electric arc plasma burner with the additional electric arc plasma burner turned on. In this case, when the bath of liquid melt is released, the main electric arc plasma torch is turned off.

EFFECT: creation of an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly method for processing, neutralizing and destroying medical waste using electric arc plasma.
