FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of titanium (III) chloride used as a component of the active coating of anodes, a catalyst in organic synthesis, as well as in water purification processes. The titanium salt conversion method includes countercurrent extraction of titanium from a solution of its convertible salt using a cation-exchange extractant and re-extraction of titanium with a converting acid to obtain a re-extract containing the converted titanium salt. Titanium(III) sulphate solution is used as a convertible salt solution. A strong base cation exchange resin is used as the cation exchange extractant. Stripping is carried out with 5-18 wt.% hydrochloric acid at a ratio of solid:liquid of 1:1-3 and with a linear speed of 2-6 m/h.
EFFECT: simplified production of titanium (III) chloride without the use of phosphorus-containing ion exchangers.
