SUBSTANCE: in particular, the invention relates to the diagnosis of HDV infections at the point of treatment. The following is proposed: a polypeptide containing or consisting of an amino acid sequence selected from the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and SEQ ID NO: 2, an amino acid sequence comprising or consisting of amino acid residues 1–195 of SEQ ID NO: 1 or 2, an amino acid sequence containing amino acids containing or consisting of amino acid residues 60–214 of the sequences of SEQ ID NO: 1 or 2, or an amino acid sequence that is at least 99% identical to the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and the use of the claimed polypeptide. Nucleic acid encoding the claimed polypeptide and its use are proposed. A method of in vitro detection of the presence of hepatitis D virus (HDV) in a patient sample and an immunographic device for in vitro detection of the presence of hepatitis D virus (HDV) in a patient sample, as well as a kit for in vitro detection of the presence of hepatitis D virus (HDV) in a sample of a patient are proposed.

EFFECT: invention allows to detect the presence of hepatitis D virus (HDV), diagnose HDV infection and monitor treatment of HDV infection.
