SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of a disease or condition mediated by the activation of β₂-adrenergic receptor containing a compound of formula IC or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and optionally one or more pharmaceutically acceptable adjuvants, diluents and/or carriers. In formula 1C: each Y¹, Y⁴ and Y⁵ represents H; one of Y² and Y³ represents F and the other represents H; R¹ is C_4-5 alkyl; and R² and R³ are both H, where alkyl may be linear or, if there are sufficient carbon atoms, may be branched and/or cyclic or partially cyclic. The compound is present in an enantiomeric excess (e.i.) of at least 90 %. Also the use of a compound of formula IC, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, for the treatment of a disease or condition mediated by activation of β₂-adrenergic receptor, and a method of treating a disease or condition mediated by activation of β₂-adrenergic receptor are provided.

EFFECT: proposed composition is used to treat conditions such as type 2 diabetes, through the activation of β₂-adrenergic receptor, and has a favorable side effect profile, since its action is not provided by the release of significant amounts of cAMP.
