FIELD: mass spectrometry.

SUBSTANCE: ionization device includes an ion generation section configured to ionize the analyte via a corona discharge; and a transfer section configured to transfer the ionized analyte to the mass spectrometry instrument. The ion formation section and the transfer section are separated by one electrode from a pair of electrodes that form a corona discharge. Said one electrode has a hole. The ion generation section is formed as a space between the surface of the recess formed in the first end face of the first insulating plate and the second end face of the second insulating plate. The first end face is attached to the second end face without a gap between them, the discharge needle of the other electrode is inserted into the hole provided in the second end face, one electrode is provided in the recess in the position facing the other electrode with a distance between them.

EFFECT: increase in sensitivity during research.
