FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a sample input device for mass spectrometry, which serves to pass ions generated at approximately atmospheric conditions. Device contains an ionic funnel having a plurality of electrodes with holes arranged around an axis extending from the inlet of the ion funnel to the outlet of the ion funnel. Ionic funnel comprises multiple intermediate rings arranged coaxially with plurality of electrodes; each of plurality of intermediate rings is installed between one or two adjacent electrodes; each of the plurality of intermediate rings has a hole with a diameter which is greater than the diameter of each adjacent electrode. Ionic funnel is configured to pass ion sample through holes of electrodes and intermediate rings to additional parts of detection system, such as mass analyser system and detector.
EFFECT: technical result is possibility of ionised material identification in the form of molecules and atoms, at atmospheric or close to it pressure.
