FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aqueous composition suitable as a fertilizer containing at least one sulphur-based compound, which is obtained from a gas stream containing at least about 4 mol.% of hydrogen sulphide (H2S), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and/or ammonia (NH3), and containing at least about 0.1% moles of contaminants from refinery hydrocarbons, when analysed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, where the concentrated methylene chloride extract of 200 ml of the aqueous composition contains an amount detected by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, at least 1 ppm polluting refinery hydrocarbons containing one or more sulphur-containing saturated heterocyclic or acyclic compounds having a boiling point of at least about 150 °C; but where the total amount of refinery hydrocarbons in the aqueous composition itself is below the olfactory detection limit for at least 24 hours of storage at room temperature and at relative humidity of 60%. Invention also relates to a liquid fertilizer, a liquid composition, a solid crystalline material, as well as a method of preparing an aqueous composition.

EFFECT: composition is free from oil refinery odour.
