FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is described, including a method for directing DNA recombination between homologous chromosomes in a somatic cell of a plant and a genetically engineered tomato plant having a useful trait or quality, obtained by a method including directed DNA recombination between homologous chromosomes in a hybrid somatic plant cell. In one embodiment, the method comprises the steps of expressing the nuclease system in a plant somatic cell, analyzing the progeny of said plant somatic cell or plant tissue grown from said plant somatic cell or plant grown from said somatic cell or progeny of said plant for homologous recombination between said homologous chromosomes and selecting said progeny of said somatic plant cell or plant tissue grown from said plant somatic cell or plant grown from said somatic cell, or progeny of said plant in which the directed homologous recombination has occurred.
EFFECT: expansion of the arsenal of means of directed DNA recombination between homologous chromosomes in the somatic cell of a plant.
