FIELD: image coding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to intra-prediction-based image coding, in which a prediction unit is divided into sub-blocks and predicted in sub-blocks. A video decoding method is proposed, which includes: determining whether the current block should be divided into a plurality of subblocks; when the current block is divided into a plurality of sub-blocks, determining a division direction for the current block between the horizontal division direction and the vertical division direction and the number of sub-blocks based on the division information decoded from the bitstream and the width and height of the current block; restoring the current block by sequentially restoring sub-blocks that are indicated according to the split direction and the number of sub-blocks using intra-prediction; and setting a grid of N samples at regular intervals in the horizontal and vertical directions, and performing deblocking filtering among the boundaries between sub-blocks in the current block coinciding with the grid boundary, wherein the number of sub-blocks is set to 2 when the width and height of the current block are 4×8 or 8×4, and the number of sub-blocks is set to 4 when the width and height of the current block is greater than 4×4 and not equal to 4×8 and 8×4.
EFFECT: placement of reconstructed neighbouring samples used for prediction of the current sample to be closer to the current sample, and prediction of subblocks of blocks using the common intra-prediction mode to improve coding efficiency.
