FIELD: medicine, pediatrics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to assess the metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota in children aged from 1 month to 3 years. The content of low-molecular SCFA, short-chain fatty acids, in samples of biological objects is determined by gas-liquid chromatography. In the feces of a child, the concentration in mg/g is determined: acetic acid — C2, propionic acid — C3, butyric acid — C4 and isoacids: isobutyric, isovaleric, isocaproic — iCn. The sum of isoacids EiCn, the anaerobic index, AI, and the total acid content, E, are calculated. The obtained indicators of SCFA values and the calculated values of EiCn, AI, E are compared with the values of the evaluation table presented in Figure 1, according to the age group. If the indicators of SCFA values and calculated values fall into the range of values above 10‰, but below or equal to 25‰ or above or equal to 75‰, but below 90‰, it indicates that the metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota has minor deviations that require correction in the presence of clinical manifestations only. If the SCFA values and calculated values fall within the range of values above 3‰, but below or equal to 10‰, or above or equal to 90‰, but below 97‰, the values are considered low or high, respectively, which reflects deviations in the state of the intestinal microbiota and requires dynamic monitoring and correction in the presence of relevant clinical manifestations. If the indicators of SCFA values and calculated values fall into the ranges of values below 3‰ or above 97‰, it indicates that there are pronounced disturbances in the metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota, which requires additional examination to identify pathological conditions of the intestines in children.
EFFECT: method provides the possibility of assessing the metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota in children aged from 1 month to 3 years by determining the content of low molecular weight short-chain fatty acids in feces, which makes it possible to reliably assess disorders of the intestinal microbiota in functional and pathological conditions of the intestine in children.
