FIELD: corrosion testing.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to study of corrosion properties of automotive sheet low-carbon and low-alloy steels, namely, to determination of their resistance to atmospheric corrosion, and can be used for a comparative assessment of corrosion properties of automotive sheet steels. The method for testing auto sheet steels against atmospheric corrosion includes making a sample, preparing its working surface, measuring the area of the working surface and weighing. The sample is placed in a steam bath, created by heating a solution of artificial sea water, at a distance of at least 50 mm from the level of the solution from the moment the temperature in the working volume reaches 70°C to 90°C, while the sample is kept under such conditions for 2 hours, after which the sediment of corrosion products is removed from the surface of the sample by washing in an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid at a concentration of at least 15%, wiped with alcohol, thoroughly dried, weighed, weight loss is determined and the rate of corrosion losses is calculated.
EFFECT: reduction in duration of the corrosion test, as well as an increase in reliability of the express method for assessing the resistance of auto sheet steel against atmospheric corrosion.
